Personal Choices ...

My best friend, Marc, who lives in Lafayette CA and was my college roommate, first 'Best Man' and constant philosopher - it was his Major in school - once told me that you have three elements that in your life will dictate the level of your happiness.

They are:
1. Living where you want to live.
2. Doing what you want to do.
3. Doing it with whomever you want to do it with.

Marc said that if you have all three you are happy. Only two and you are adequate but not satisfied. Only one and you are not in control of your life anymore and probably very unhappy.

Once, for about 22-23 years, I had all three.

Then came the breakup, the sell-off and finally the move to Ohio. The last item was done because of my Mother's wish to live back here in her final years. But it was my choice to do it.

So I lost numbers 1 and 3.

I am still not sure about number 2, either. But at least I am painting and trying.

Some times I just want to pack the cats in the car and bolt.

Jon, #1 and #3 fit my life right now. I am working on #2 but it doesn't look good.

we all at some stage want to head for the hills--seems I have always had the three, only 2 after my wife died but back to 3 when I was lucky enough to find and marry Cath

we all want to run away from home sometimes. It does cost a fortune to
move and get a new household going. You have art and your cats and winter
is several months off.

I would like to have all three but the first two are the most important. Number 3 doesn't fit my age anymore, unless she would have a nice portfolio, own a villa in Santa Margarita di Liguri and enjoy strawberry rhubarb pie.

No. 3 is what has always been my priority. I will tolerate living anywhere, if no. 3 is taken care of. As for doing what I want to do, I am pretty cool with piano and blogging and taking care of things and exercising and one day I'll pick up a crayon again.

If you had 22-23 years of all three, you've been luckier than most people, I suspect. To me, #2 is the most important on the list, followed by #1, and aren't cats a good substitute for #3??

Why not? What's keeping you stuck?

Money. It's the cost. It cost me over 6k to move here in late 2005.
