My solution to the pain of politics?
1. Limit ALL national offices to four-year terms, one term per office-holder. This includes, the President, Senators and Congresspersons. No re-election to the same office. Ever.
2. Hold ALL national elections in the same year. Eliminate mid-term elections. Everyone runs for office in the same time frame. This would save local election boards tons of cash.
3. After his or her four-year-term is over, no national ex-office holder may work in the lobbying industry for ten years.
ARGUMENTS FOR:
1. Saves money.
2. Eliminates graft, corruption and cronyism.
3. Once an office holder is elected his or her primary focus becomes getting re-elected. That will not happen!
ARGUMENT AGAINST (and counterpoint):
1. "But it will hurt really 'talented' people from serving."
(We haven't had a 'talented' politician or office holder since November 22, 1963. Forget it.)
2. "But it would hurt the advertising industry!"
(I rest my case.)
about a ten year wait on lobbyists but would hope for a forever limit.
