December Arrived ...

...late. The rains finally moved east. We had three days of it in constant fashion. My basement loaded with water that leaked through the cracks, the walls and up from the saturated ground. It reached about two inches deep in places. The furnace room is higher with a 6" slab they poured above the remainder of the cellar before they installed the new gas furnace.

This morning it finally is subsiding and the main room is "dry," although I noticed a thin layer of wet dirt.

I did not call the landlord.I don't need him or plumbers traipsing through my clean house. I placed my trust in the fact that the ground water would eventually stop leaking and the flood would subside.

In other parts of town, nearer to the river, basements are full up to ground level. So I am blessed for that not happening here.

The tree is up and yesterday I loaded about 7 strings of lights before I decided to quit for the evening. I think I will load two strings of blue lights today and then top the tree with the Santa topper. I might even hang a few balls and other hanging items. I am in no hurry.

All the cats are in good health. I think I am, too, but you never know. I did not get a flu or pneumonia shot yet. I probably will. They always make me sick when I get them and put me down for a few days. Hate that effect.

I can't believe the assholes running for President. One made the statement that if he was elected there might not be Medicare on any given year of his administration. He should read the law that created Medicare. The President does not have the authority to halt Medicare. Case closed.

Don't those guys do their due diligence? I think they should study the laws and how government works before they can run.

Another candidate said that "...nobody ever died because they didn't have health insurance." Please send the moron back to PA where he came from!

In election years I sometimes wish we still had the Queen, or a King, or at least an intelligent political establishment.

Italy, even near bankruptcy, is looking better and better.

Somehow, I've avoided major rains--the storm track has been south and east. Do have an inch of morning snow. Pretty, if nothing else. As for politics, esp. Republican, I'm closed mouth.

you sent that rain my way! we are on pretty high ground so our basement has never flooded. wednesday night we had high winds with knocked over our ferris wheel on the porch!
i am so scared of the upcoming election! I hate voting because it's like you play a game of eenie meenie minee mo! Instead of voting for the best candidate, you vote for who you think will do the least amount of damage.

this is going to be a very, very election year of 2012.They have very and mean very bad choices in the field of Republican.Newt can be and is a scary situation there.
All of the candidate that are running are lost.If ever rather see Rommey run as I know that Obama will kick his ass.I will stick by my prez.He will be fine. The rest in the field there are nothing but entertainment.

Not that flooding is ever good, but it seems so perverse for it to come in December when it's cold out, and if you pumped the water out of the basement it would instantly freeze in your yard. Hugs to all those cats.

Ah, politics... can't win for losing....
I am glad that your basement flooding wasn't as bad as it could have been, and also glad to hear it seems to be drying out!
Our weather just turned bitter cold. I need to move to Hawaii or something where it's always in the 70's and 80's...

If your house were in Florida, your water problem would create an almost unbeatable mold. Check into this anyway. Also, isn't there any way you could insulate your basement from more water leakage?

This morning's poll numbers give Gingrich a lead over Romney in Iowa. The looney toons have taken over. I am worried because many states have introduced election laws that are making it difficult for minorities, the poor, and the elderly, and the young to vote. Voting volunteers in Florida are now faced with criminal prosecution if they violate some rules in our new law that are so vaguely worded that it would be easy to get something wrong. High fines and imprisonment are highlighted in the way the law is written. As a result, the League of Women Voter has withdrawn its efforts in the State. They don't need, apparently, to be drawn into endless lawsuits and want to avoid that. Republican governor Rick Scott is behind it. He is a disaster. He has a low approval rating but there is no recall system in this state. We're stuck with this neo-Nazi for another two years.

The presidential hopefuls are hilarious. I would certainly twist Herman
Caine's neck off if I were his wife. Rick Perry is a joke. We know all
about Bachman and Newt.
