Country Folk Can't Have Reliable Internet?

It must be about two weeks since I posted "Idiot Roofer". Fortunately the roof isn't leaking after I fixed it myself, although the master bathroom was (along with the kitchen sink). I have to put a new surround around the master tub and the kitchen sink leak is fixed (with the aid of the plumber), and I'm back online.

We connected to the new ISP in the middle of September, and the damn thing was down already by last Tuesday. I kept calling and they kept explaining what the problem was, not that I can repeat it. But I'm thinking: either reprogram it or get another one, or hook us up to the part of the system that was working, but nooooo... It took them three days to get it working. I haven't been offline that long since last I was camping.

Not much is going on.. growing season is over although daytime temps have still been pleasant. The high-end chain saw isn't much more reliable than the ISP, so there is still wood to cut before the snow flies (which was canceled from the weekend forecast). My buddy has the saw and thinks he can fix it (again). This is the one time when I should have bought el-cheapo. I could have cut my losses and replaced it, but nope, this time I went high end, and I'm paying just the same.

We went to the flu clinic at the local hospital on Saturday. Haven't seen so many old farts in the same place since the Depends salesman was giving away freebies. Nice to know that we're in the group with the highest vaccination compliance. Some of the excuses the health care workers use for not getting vaccinated are absolutely unbelievable. "I wash my hands a lot", and worse, "I'll stay home if I feel sick". By buddy the FNP laughed when I laughed at that one. He says, "you're not even in the field and you know that a person is contagious before symptoms appear". He's no longer as proud of his profession as he once was, and in this case, even as a libertarian, he sides with the government on mandatory vaccination for health care workers. He's seen too many critically ill patients in the hospital who could easily die from contact with an infected worker.

Well, it's 51 degrees and the sun is shining, most of the time, so I'm off to finish winterizing the coach and mowing for the last time this season. Happy fall!
