It has been a month since we booked our long weekend break to Inverness. But now it looks like we won't even be able to get there. It is 1230 and snow is lying very deep and even. I would say a good 5 inches has fallen in 6 hours. I know it has been 6 hours because DH left for work this morning at 0615 and there was nothing lying just a few flakes falling on his way to work.

We are hopefully heading to Inverness for a 3 night stay in a chalet. Inverness is the same as here weatherwise apparently, it is the hazardous A9 which will cause the bother. There are snow gates at several locations en-route and are known to close when the snow becomes too bad. There is also a high part of the road known as Slochd summit and the notorious Drumochter pass (Jacobite rebellion fame) and they are a nightmare at the best of times. All in all I am not looking forward to the journey. I am actually hoping the Police advice unnecessary travel so that we can get our money back and book again in the spring.

I am taking bad this year as we haven't had snow lie for more than 2 days for the past 4 or 5 years. This year so far it has been lying for nearly 2 weeks. There hasn't even been the need to buy a sledge before for the kids for that very reason. Now everywhere is sold out.

I was even hoping to travel on minor routes that I haven't been on in years to see the scenery but now we are forced to stick to the main roads. This has the added hastle of everyone else doing that too!

I will hopefull be able to post about our adventuress in the highland capital and our search for the monster from a boat on Loch Ness.
