A Smile and a Tear

Today my eldest went off to cub camp. This is his first time away from home for more than one night away from us. I am so excited for him and yet nervous. He has been hyper ever since he found out Bear Grylls has chosen this camp to arrive by helicopter and join the cubs in some fun and games at some point over the weekend.

After much deliberation as to what should go in his rucksack and what doesn't quite make the cut we managed to get him ready to go. The forecast is for rain and low temperatures over night so in went thermals and an extra jumper (two were in there already). Oh I hope he goes for the "cosy rather than cool" philosophy. I know only too well how miserable you can get when you are at a camp like this. I remember water running through my guide tent like a river!

A friend of his from a different pack had already chosen to have him in their tent so DS1 was super excited when his pal came to find him. There are 6 to a tent and a couple of the boys he doesn't know, but DS1 is a sociable soul so I am sure he will get on just fine.

I just know the boys will not sleep much and I am fairly certain I will sleep even less until he comes home with his tales of the weekend and the adventure that is Cub Camp!

I think you are right. It will be Mum who gets the least sleep. He, I'm sure, is having a grand time.

So cute. It's great that he has a pal there and they'll be in the same tent. I surely hope he goes the cosy route, given a choice.

Awwww. Brings back memories of leaving my first born at nursery school. He was three years old and I only stopped peeking through the window for fear he would see me.
