My 7 1/2 YO son is a very reluctant reader. It is frustrating that he reads fine (when he puts his mind to it). I have brought my concerns up with his teachers and most are very positive, and helpful and reassure me that it is common for boys to lack enthusiasm for reading. But I worry that he is now in P3 and more of his other subject areas require some reading to progress.

I have tried so many types of books etc to try and inspire and motivate his interest. DH and I have always read to our kids and we visit the library at least every 2 weeks. I have been looking at book series aimed at reluctant readers but on a theme aimed at his age and interest.

He is into the Magic Tree House series of books and they have a great website where there are activity sheets and passport stamps you can print off once a book has been read. My son would really like to start reading the Beast Quest series but I feel it is a little beyond him just now as he won't just pick up a book to read alone yet.

He enjoys the Harry Potter films, but again the books are a little over his head just now. But I am excited with my latest Amazon purchase though, I have found a series of books aimed at kids his age and more for his reading level, called Oliver Moon. These books are about a young boy wizard who's parents are not the greatest witch and wizard. I don't intend to tell him the book is on it's way but can't wait to see if I get a decent reaction.

Santa gave him an itouch at Christmas in the hope that maybe having ebooks on there would be another way to encourage things in the right direction.
