Mcs - Myth or Fact?

.... Middle child syndrome that is!

I always thought this was a figment of my sister's imagination. She was the middle one and myself the eldest. But now that I have my own middle child I firmly believe that there is something in it. L is the most loving and well behaved little boy when things are going his way but as soon as attentions are diverted elsewhere the "diva strops" commence. For a while I put his behaviour down to the fact that he is a very bright 5 year old and was desperate for school. But now that he is at school things are worse.

I have recently read online that the middle child often finds their place in the family order difficult to put a handle on. I have also read that giving each child a special day each week where they choose what to watch, what bedtime story, what to do as a family or what to have as our evening meal helps each child feel that they all belong equally within the family dynamics. This I am definately going to try.

We have also made the conscience decision as a family to try our hardest to stop shouting at each other. It is all too easy when you are depraved of sleep to raise your voice but all this results in is a screaming match which resolves nothing. Positive choices are rewarded and negative ones receive a consequence. We have missed Karate lessons etc due to this in the past.

No one said being a parent was easy and I guess easy things are seldom worthwhile!
