Having followed a link left by one of my fellow Facebookers, I have discovered Geocaching. Geocaching is basically a treasure hunt where hundreds of thousands of caches are hidden worldwide. Many of you will know about this as it has been on the go for 10 years, others will be like myself and either clueless or a keen virgin to the phenomenon.

Having registered at geocaching.com (it is free - unless you want more benefits) and entered my postal code I have discovered there are loads in my local area. Some I have walked past and been oblivious to their existance others I am keen to track down. This sounds like a good way to bribe the kids to go on a longer walk and see if we track down some caches. Some of the caches are set up as swaps (many seem to be aimed at children) others you just sign a log book. After you return home you go online and log your finds.

All I need now is a gps device so that I can follow the online clues and co-ordinates. Some I know I could manage without a gps but others are called multiple-caches where each location gives reference points for another location.

One thing I know for sure is any days out we go on now I will have checked online for any nearby caches!
