Flower of Scotland

I have this urge to be patriotic today! It all stems from the search I made on our Local news programme's site this morning. I heard on the local radio today that a couple who live inmy town used to work at the children's home that is at the centre of a scandal here at the minute. I thought I would go and read the story. But as with all my surfing I get side tracked. I came across some video clips of the sights and landmarks of Scotland. The one that struck me most was the video of Culloden Moor's new visitor centre which is being built on the site where the famous Battle of Culloden took place in 1746.

There were so many other clips there too that it would take me all day to watch them all..... so I have added the link if you fancy a gander. I have also found a site where the story is penned far better than I could ever manage!

I hope you also enjoy the music.

No visit to the North of Scotland is complete without a trip to Culloden Moor, near Inverness. I have been there 3 times. Twice as a child, you don't appreciate the whole story when you are there as a child. The last time I was there would be about 10 years ago.

What I found was a windswept and barren piece of moor. I also had a strange sensation come over me that send shudders down my spine. You just get this earie feeling when you are there. So many ran onto that battle field April 16 1746 and only a few limped off. You can almost hear the battle cries and shouts as you stand and look out across the battle field. I am sure it is a similar feeling you would get if you stepped onto any battlefield where so many souls were slain.

I get the sense of many souls "wandering" the moor in the limbo between life and death and this is what causes the sensations that I felt when I stepped onto the battle field. It almost feels disrespectful to those who fell that day to talk, laugh etc - bit like when you walk into a church!
