As Promised: York the Final Part

As promised my final part of our trip to Yorkshire. It already looks like its a long time ago but its only 2 weeks ago we came home again. There were just 2 days to go and the weather still was typical British, a bit of rain and a bit of sunshine.
After a nice night in our hotelroom we went out to the center by foot round 9.30. We had decided to visit some places we walked by with our pubtour. First to visit was "the shambles" a street in which in earlier times all butchers were settled.

They slaughtered the beasts and they prepared the meat to sell it. It is a very narrow street which still has the original houses with windowsills on the exterior to present the products.
Nowadays all kind of jewelry shops and tourists shops are settled.
Because of my wife's birthday I decided to buy her a nice necklace with a silver "hanger" with a little diamond in it.
We also visited a very little old church still with an original interior of many ages ago.

After a little coffeebreak we visited the Mansion house in York centre were we had a guided tour. Interesting place, pity the guide was quite new and "just read" a lot which made it a bit long and boring.
That afternoon we went to the York Castle museum in which a lot was presented in themes like birth through the ages, death and burials through the ages, doing laundry, shopping and so. An old Victorian street was rebuild with sounds from earlier days like coaches and so. There also was an exhibition about "the 60's" very amusing.

After a final walk through town and a final look at the minster of york we ended in one of the pubs we visited on Friday for dinner and off course a pint.

On our room we had made a decision to visit a castle on Sunday after we left York. On my laptop we had googled for it and our choise was to visit Howard Castle 15 miles north of York.
It was a good decision. It was such a great place to be there. A nice tour in the building, a nice typical british lunch and a nice guided tour towards the "belvedere" of the castle.
For those who ever watched the BBC-series "Brideshead-revisited" this castle was used as a location in which much of the episodes was recorded. (at home we bought the dvd cause we had never seen Brideshead revisited and its very nice to see nice spots on TV where we walked as well).

After a very amusing day we finished in Leeds again in the same hotel we spent the first night. The room we had was quite a dirty one so it was not really nice being there... well we didnt got ill and we were able to drive to the airport again.
After leaving our Ford Fiesta at the avis agency we went to our plane to Amsterdam.
8.15 pm local time we arrived. The end of a great and relaxing week in which we did a lot and saw many many things. Really worth another visit.
