Just some quick news facts from today:
The financial crisis is not such a big issue here lately but yesterday something happened what brought us back a bit again. What happened? Well, here we have a bank, called DSB, founded by a person called Dirk Scheringa (Dirk Scheringa Bank). The bank is located in the hometown of his founder about 60 km away from me and is specially known here as a bank which gives a lot of personal loans. They also misled a lot of clients with their mortgages.
DNB ( the Dutch federal bank) put DSB under "guardianship" (if that is correct English) yesterday morning. It was all caused by a guy who made an announcement to clients to take all the money from their accounts because the bad behaving of the bank.
In a few hours lots of millions of money was disposited with a lot of financial consequences. Clients now only are able to get 250 euro a day for three days in a row and then the disposit possibilities are over and they need to get a new bankaccount at another bank. Lots of clients with a lot of saving money will face great financial losses. The dutch government will quarantee for maximum of 100.000 euro of savings but when clients took more risks by using special deposit accounts they dont get that guarantee and have lost all their money....
Another sad thing to read today is the sudden death of Boyzone singer Stephen Gately. It always feels so strange to hear and read about these kind of sudden deaths. Today autopsy will take place.
A third sad thing to read is that more and more students here just take Ritalin to improve their concentration during exams.
And what about a USA primary school who suspended a 6 year old guy (!!!) for taking a scout tool to school.
Well reading these things in my morning paper today didn't gave me a nice feeling to start the day with. I will get along btw....
