First off - Happy (belated) Birthday!! Double check your lease. I think landlords are required to give you a 24hr advance notice before entering your your place. And most Realtors will give at least a 1hr notice before bringing prospective buyers.
ALL of my Scotties have had similar ear problems. I like to call it "stinky ear syndrome." Anyway...one of my vets finally recommended I clean their ears out with Oti Clens. The stuff works wonders!!

I toooooootaly get the Mopping Molly Syndrome TB is going through. It's SO hard to break out of it when you're not working. Lord knows I deal with it myself. I know you're frustrated trying to boost his spirits and all you can do is take a deep breath and tell yourself you did your part, the rest is up to him. Because, ultimately, it IS up to him.
