A Day in the Life of Me

Oh my how my life has changed. My days of leisure have sure disappeared. Since getting the kids back for the week we have really worked hard. I have a lot of respect for Aaron who tackled this last week. Evan has to have his blood sugar checked 5 times a day and one of those times is at 2 am. This luckily has gone smoothly the last 2 days... knock on wood. I set my alarm for 2 check his blood and if it is good, I go back to sleep until alarm 2 goes of at 6. I'm up and straight to the kitchen for my much needed coffee! While it is brewing I jump in the shower. By now I'm a little more awake. The water is refreshing, the clean smell of soap has my senses awakened and I'm getting ready to move a little faster. Once dried off and dressed, to the kitchen I run for that much needed coffee. AH!!!! While I nurse my cup of coffee, I plan and measure and calculate what to pack my kids for lunch. Before this process was fairly simple. Now it takes a little more thinking. Evan can and has to eat 4 carbs per meal and 2 carbs for snacks. Being creative is more difficult than I thought. Trying to find that balance with letting him eat "kid" food but also making it filling is somewhat difficult. I'm getting it but it takes so much more time. Especially the days he goes to the sitters. I have to pack and mark everything so they know what is what and how much of what he can eat and when.

Once lunches are packed and loaded I tell the kids it is time to get up. While they leisurely get their behinds out of bed I put on my make up and dry my hair. My once 30 minute routine from start to finish is no more! Evan checks his blood sugar, Haley wants to help, Evan won't let her, Haley whines and wants to help and Evan yells and says... "I can do it".. Haley yells back... "I just want to help" Morning routine that hasn't seemed to cease. Bad week for it I'll tell you... I'm tired and PMS. ROAR!!!! Once his blood sugar is checked, I prepare his insulin. He actually gave it to himself the other day and I was so proud of him. He was more proud of himself. He really is being so brave about this. Once his shot has been given he has 30 minutes to eat. Normally he eats at home while I load the car. Today we loaded the car and he ate at Shylas with the rest of the kids. It worked fine just had to measure everything out and put it in bags first. I'll be glad when I can eyeball things better. Measuring a cup of cereal is a pain. It is crucial though. Getting the right amount of carbs is so important. Guessing doesn't work because if you are wrong you could end up too short or too many causing his blood sugar to rise or plummet. WOW I had no idea. Once the worry about getting the right insulin dose, making sure he has everything needed and everything loaded we hop in the car about 7:20. Off we go, out they go and off to work I go. 30 minutes later if travel permits I'm off to work 8 hours at tedious job. I am glad to be working don't get me wrong. Did I mention I was PMS? I work my 8 hours, only get a half an hour for lunch. Not much time to eat and take care of any business I may need to take care of. Doctors, bills, attorney, banking ect. I'm done by 5:00 home by 5:30 and begin to make dinner. Again following the delicate balance and planning of the morning.... Something filling using 4 carbs.

Shots, Dinner then snuggle time with the kids. We have been trying to liven things up a bit so usually we go for a bike ride, or walk. Tuesday night we went to a block party sponsored by a church. That was fun and my daughter won some cd's and I won a $50.00 gas card. Life is good in the midst of my chaos. We are usually home by 8 and it's time for snack. Again more blood sugar checks. Evan is a pro and really has the whole process down. I'm so lucky to have such a willing participant. I tuck the kids into bed and go right after them. I'm exhausted and 2 am comes quickly to start again. I am so amazed at this whole process. I have such a huge amount of respect for people with life long ailments now. What a regimen

You and Amy ( https://mybloggers.com/peanutsmom/ ) have a lot in common. Her daughter M is diabetic also. Is your son Type 1? I'm type 2 and control mine (so far) with just pills.
