Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste!

Memory's are a amazing thing. It shape us,providing a backdrop for our daily lives,a context for our actions,a rationale for our sometimes dubious.decisions.
Memories define us,without them,we have no identity.
We have nothing. These are the words from Joy Fielding novel
"HeartStopper"/Where am I going with this?
Just lost my wonderful nephew who is just four months younger than I.
He died from complication of ALzheimer's.
His son finally pulled the plug.Thank goodness.
He was in such a state and his wife would not do it.
So I was told and his son did not go along with this and pull the plug.Where am I going with this.
If I ever get Alzheimer's or some such awful thing, hope that someone will shoot me.
As far as I know that he is the only in our family that have got this.
He was an all star football player in High School.
All star coach high school in Ft.Lauderdale,FL.
Now this got me thinking.
Yes,I do think once in a while.
Playing football for most of his life, getting banged here and there in the head.
Cannot help to think that this could me the cause of this in his later years in life.
Your head can only take so much beating.
When I saw him last he was in his early years.
Great shape as I looked at him,how this happen?
Then again he had a good life, three wonderful children.
His first wife died in her early years of life from breast cancer,The second wife much younger than he took over.
Will not say more of her.
I do want to make a tribute to my wonderful nephew.
Donald J.Marino(Mingo)may peace be with you.
You are loved from the Rossi Family.

Mingo and Dad.Mingo in the blue tshirt.

You can see Bob Hope giving him a trophy in Ft.Lauderdale.

This is an early picture of Mingo family and his first wife along with his children. His brother on the left and two sisters in the front rown.In the middle section.
To you Mingo we love you.
May Peace Be With You.

A lovely tribute, Fredo. I read recently that diabetics who got Alzheimers did better and it was because they took insulin. Now they are giving insulin for Alzheimers. Knowledge of advances in treatment for this devastating disease are bittersweet for those of us who have lost loved ones. Not soon enough.

That is interesting and have not heard about that.I am hoping that someday we will get a breakthrough on this.

Sorry for your loss. "...Each man's death diminishes me, for I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee." Yes, I can see why this made you stop and think. You are alive and well and loved by your friends. Nice tribute to your nephew.

Most people who have it get cantankerous. I don't ever want to live with it
either. It is so sad to see our loved ones go. Lovely tribute.

That really is an amazing dedication.
Alzheimers is a really challenging condition for the individual and his/her family.

Fredo, I do believe getting banged around playing football possibly getting concussions has something to do with it. I worry about my son. I'm glad you wrote this and immortalized him.

fredo, i have said the same thing if I get alzheimer's. my mom has it and it is just devastating to the family. I told my daughter to put me out of my misery if that ever happened. she said no way! alzheimer's and cancer, they need a cure for both.
