If you wish to donate to a charity in Oklahoma, you would be wise to stick to the United Way, Red Cross and the Salvation Army. That is, if you don't want 75 to 90 percent
of the money to go to telemarketers.
I am solicited by the Fraternal Order of the Police and the Firefighters and various others who use telemarketers. I
think they would do better to use an alternative method of
solicitation.
Some questions you might ask a telemarketer are:
1. What is your full name?
2. What is the address and phone number of the place you
are calling from.
3. What is the full name and address of the charity you
represent?
4. How will my donation be used?
5. What percentage of my donation will go to fund raisers?
6. Are you a volunteer or are you a paid employee.
That should get them to end the call. Even with a don't
call number, I still get a lot of these calls which make
me feel a little guilty when I refuse.
I would like to know about the animal charities too. I
usually contribute to the Humane society and Alley Cat Allies but you get solicitations at least every month and
sometimes twice a month. Recently I have started giving
Guiding Eyes For the Blind money because it helps both disabled people and dogs.
I hate it when good hearted people are misled.
