When I was a child, I was forbidden to read the magazine because of the lurid stories it contained. They would not be considered in the least naughty now. Naturally I sneaked around and read all of them and of True Detective that I could get my hot little hands on.
Wondering about Adrienne's reading habits, I discussed this with my son. She reads juvenile books such as Harry Potter and some children's books. At the same age,I was reading The Sun Also Rises and A Farewell to Arms. Hemingway was one of my favorite authors. I also doted on Alice In Wonderland and Through the looking Glass because they kept me amused through many readings and re-readings.
Bobby's thought was that I read what was available and
Adrienne has more of a choice. This may be true but I
believe that television has ruined classic children's books for them by presenting them boiled down and easily assimilated.
Adrienne loves horror movies and books and I tried to get her interested in the original Dracula by Bram Stoker. It instilled delicious terror in me everytime I heard a tree branch scrape the window. I guess kids never lose interest in being scared spitless.
