I am thinking of taking a pottery class this fall. It is such a satisfying art form because you are so intimate with your medium. Ted had pottery in high school and his teacher was Monty Hoke who is quite famous in pottery
circles. We took two classes several years ago and a lot of our stuff has broken. Unlike most art, it is fun and not daunting. Sort of like making mud pies.
It is not appreciated much here and I find that strange because we have a large Native American population. I love
the textures and the colors and have always wanted a piece of the black pottery made famous by Maria.
Ted and I are due a trip to Santa Fe. The last time we were
there we met two expert potters in a museum who had some of
their work on display. They invited us to visit them and we corresponded for a while but it eventually lapsed since
we got busy with other things. Visiting with them was so
interesting. They told us that the galleries took a large percentage when they sold their pots which seems like a terrible injustice to me.
There is something so awe inspiring in New Mexico. The mountains constantly change color and the sunsets are spectacular. It is not called the land of enchantment for
nothing.
