I think I get the utmost enjoyment out of my life but realize that it will end. There has been so much talk about the conferences with your doctor every five years after a
certain age in the health care bill since it costs an average of eighteen thousand dollars for the last year of life. All of us who are older need to do this anyway.

I have thought about this a lot and have come to some conclusions about my own life. The quality of life is more important to me than existence. I would decline expensive and painful treatments such as chemo. We need to be realistic about this. It has become an unmentionable topic.
If younger people comment that we are soaking up all of the
available health care, they come off as being callous.

Much of my view comes from watching many of my friends endure long and painful treatments. Their suffering was exacerbated by their treatments and dying was still their fate. Pain management is an area in which we are lacking.

I hope that when the grim reaper knocks on my door that medical marijuana will be approved, I can have several glasses of wine everyday and will depart in a soothing haze.
