Wildflowers and Other Things

image

While better than my cottage, this still is not the loose effect I want to achieve. I want to improve my pastel painting because I think it would be a good medium for plein air painting. After this attempt, I bought a book on the subject. Until I improve, I will stop using my expensive paper and use the Mi-Teintes and cheaper papers.

I saw a post on FB by a dear friend that really disturbed me. It glorified a woman in Germany who interrupted an Imam's prayer during an interfaith concert by shouting anti-Muslim rants. How is this woman a hero? Intolerance and bigotry is never ok, and I had no idea my friend was so bigoted. My emotional response may not be right, but I found myself distancing myself from her. Some of the warmth and affection that I felt for her sapped right out from me.

I have nightmares and use three sleeping aids: music, Latin chants by monks and Koran readings/cants. The last got me to reading the Koran (translations from Arabic to English are on opposing pages the way Missals once were when the Mass was said in Latin). I can never be Muslim, but I respect the Koran and the Muslim faith. Yes, there are some terrible extremists but they do not represent all Muslims. Christians can be extremists too both historically and in more recent years. Think about the origin of the expression "to drink the kool-aid".

I have looked up my columns up by typing my name, or by typing in the News-Press, Fort Myers. But I have run into a request for money so I am not suggesting my friends do this. A column on women's rights will appear this Sunday. I can I message it to you on MyBloggers, or give me your E mail?

I agree with your views on religion. I have blogged and written opinions that sometimes get published by the Fort Myers News-Press on the mis-use of faith to support self-serving and criminal behavior. I give no free pass to evangelical bigotry and feel that such behavior is as foul as that of muslim terrorists. Sorry about your friend. It is always dismaying to be made aware of such thoughts in someone you were once fond of. Your flowers are appealing -- it will be interesting to see how you improve on yourself.

I was writing a reply to you, then lost it! Hmm... Do you ever post the columns you write? send me a link.
I don't tolerate bigotry well. I cannot credit my father with much. He had more than a few major faults, but from childhood on he taught us tolerance of others and was quite adamant about that.

Dottie, a certain artist has made millions painting cottages, Thomas Kincaide
has made his fortune catering to popular taste.

Kincaide's images are full of color and life. Mine was dark and dreary. I already destroyed the original and would remove it from my posts except then I would also loose the comments.

Dottie those are my sentiments exactly. I have no love for Muslim extremists
but there are plenty of good Muslim people who do not hate and want to kill
us. The rant I saw was about Mosques and then a very nasty one about
President Obama with a quote from a former Russian head of state underneath
it. This person used to be on our blog. It distressed me. I like your
flowers but I also liked the ocean with the spray and the birds diving for
food.

The one about calling the woman in Germany a heroine for interrupting an interfaith concert was posted by a friend, and someone who also used to be here. I noticed today that she removed the post and my comments/opinion that this was completely bigoted. So disappointed that this friend applauds such behavior.
Back to the art- yes, the cottage sucks dirty swamp water. That is one piece I think I need to tear out and trash.
