My dogs had an appointment at the vet yesterday for their shots. They started out by preparing an estimate of what it would cost to update their shots, run the fecal tests, etc. Nearly $500!!! I blanched. I balked. "I can't afford that", I told her quite bluntly. They gave me another option. They run a vaccine clinic two Saturdays a month at a local pet store where they offer a one year Rabies vaccine for as little as ten dollars, and for $59 the three year rabies vaccine, the two year DHPP, Bordetella and heart worm test. Much more reasonable!
This morning I packed up the dogs for a second straight day and drove to the pet store. Wow! Loads of people- and dogs- and cats. My dogs surprised me. They were quite well behaved around all of the other dogs and did not bark once.
There was a couple behind me with a pit bull and another large breed dog and they were not keeping their dogs close. Their dogs wandered the full length of their six-foot leashes and I moved up a bit to keep my two tiny things away from theirs. Because of where I was standing, when it came time to register, I was inadvertently placed ahead of another couple with two cats. The woman was quite acrimonious about this. I tried several times to tell the vet's staff that this couple was ahead of me, but they saw no reason to hold up the line to let her ahead. In truth, the 'bump' in the line cost her no more than five minutes tops- likely less- but she was quite nasty about it. 'She waited twenty minutes in the heat' (as did I) 'and had another appointment that day'!!! I tried to tell the staff TWICE and apologized profusely this couple, all to no avail. Why do people have to be so ugly?
