Proud to Be an American?

Yes, and always, but right now I am also ashamed of many Americans who treat the President of the United States like an enemy of our nation instead of its leader.

I am ashamed of the Americans who refused to allow their children to hear their President encourage them to stay in school and do well. I am ashamed of the parents who called it 'brainwashing'- even though he did not politicize this speech or introduce any political agendas- while turning up the volume to hate mongers like Rush Limbaugh.

I am ashamed of our politicians who fight every effort, every idea, every appointment and every cause because they WANT this President to fail- despite the fact that this extreme polarization is hurting every American, every day and tarnishing our image abroad.

This is the democratic process that we want the rest of the world to admire? This is the method of government that we want to introduce in places like the Mid-East and Third World nations? Is no one besides me ashamed to have the news broadcast around the world (in places like Iran and Korea) that Americans hate their president so much that they kept their children home from school rather than have them exposed to a motivational speech that he delivered with their best interests in mind?

What has become of us? I heard nothing this ugly or disrespectful from the opposing political parties during previous administrations. I am sick to death of extreme polarization and fanaticism. Our country's name is the UNITED States of America. Did we forget that Divided we Fall?
