The show "sucked" today. I don't give actual numbers (for various reasons), but I will now.
This particular show, the "fee" was $33.00. Not bad, figured I wouldn't lose. The reason I am "giving numbers" is for you to actually see what it's like.
It is a "2 day" show. So we have "gas there and back". We have to eat, feed Sebastian. Supplies are a "cost too, as well as taxes", but I am not thinking about that. I had enough supplies, taxes happens later.
We were led to "believe" the show was "right downtown" in a busy "Detroit suburb". It really wasn't. It was close, but we are on the promoters property on the end. I said before, I didn't expect to do crap, but it's another "in" with a promoter that isn't established "yet", that may be someday. Three of us shared a booth. Personally I sold like $90.00 today (which isn't chit). The one beside me, I doubt made a sale. The other guy beside me (who set this up with Bible stuff) sold a little less then me.
In a natural sense, I expect to sell "twice" Saturday as Friday. So I expect a $200 day tomorrow. We will go back. Still, it isn't much. But is something.
About 2PM, I knew this was a "blow". The downtown area is just a few blocks away. There are like "3" bars there. Was no people walking the street. I think I had a "drink" at all "3" bars. I didn't get drunk, just checked them out. If I had an order, Roxann had my "cell" and I'd just go back and cut it.
Hopefully we can make a "few hundred" tomorrow. They want us to do Sunday too.. but that won't happen.. lol. We won't work next weekend (unless we find a Sunday only show).
One of Roxann's farvoite bands is "Big and Rich". Personally I hate that "country music" crap. I was in the bathroom of the "bar", and seen this "newspaper posted". They are "playing in Detroit". I just knew she loves them. I told her, if you want to go see them, rather then a show we could. Sure as hell made her "smile" so she is working out childcare. Maybe if I get all "drunk and chit", I will handle that "country music".. lol.
Nicks's "computer" is now fixed. Costed him "nothing". Just to update ya. I'll help ya if ya need help! Serious. Roxann actually did most.. but I guided her. I want her to "learn". She's actually pretty smart.
So the "local" newspaper was out today. Taking all sorts of pictures. They were last week too (matter of fact 3 shows on a row). Not to brag, but that actually happens "all the time" with my work. What's funny to me, The guy that I set up next too (the guy who got me to do this thing), has never experienced that. He's "tapping me on the shoulder".. "Gary, they are putting us in the PAPER"! I know dude, lol. You are doing shows now, and you do nice stuff. It's gonna happen. Get used to it.. lol. We plan to do "lots" of shows together. I think he's "cool" (maybe too much a Bible preacher for my taste), but I like him. We get along pretty good actually.
I'll tell you "exactly" what I like of him most. To him, calling and "meeting" promoters is super cool. Me, been there and done that. The last thing in the world I wanna do is "even" call a promoter. Everyone knows me, but it's still a part of my business I hate. Ask "Roxann" how often we find a show, and I say "you call". I know I'll get in, everyone either knows me or heard of me. It's just "something" I'd rather not deal with myself. This "guy" loves to talk, and is actually "great" at it in my opinion. He wants to do shows together (he knows the attraction I get -- draws customers to him), and he does the one thing I hate now "setting it up". We can be a team. Let him "set it up", I just show up.. lol.
It's a "hard" one for me to explain. I guess I just don't like doing it. Like a "formality" I'd rather not deal with it. If he "uses my name" and says we work together, chances are we can do alot of shows together.
The one thing I have, is I have done this all my life. Not many "promoters" in Michigan haven't heard of me. If "we work together", he suddenly gets the "top spots" too. Cause we will be together. To me, this is sounding "Awesome", and to him too I know.
I'll keep ya "updated" on us working together.,,
Gary :)
