A Journey Into My Life

Life & Events > You Got a Virus

You Got a Virus

So you got a flucking "virus" on your computer. Your freaking out.

The first thing you need is to understand "How they work". Then you need to know "how to solve" the sucker.

This is something I really don't want to write. Yet I will. I only will because this blog became somewhat (private), and it's not going all over. You don't know this about me yet, but I created the "Only" virus generation program ever made. I didn't do it to "release", I did it to learn. I never released it to the public.

In a short sense, I wrote a "virus" generation program in "C/C++". Took like a year. Basically what it would do, is like any other program. You would push a few buttons, then it would make a "virus" you could send anywhere. If you wanted it to destroy the "Hard drive", "Bios", or whatever.. it would. Hundreds of options. It was greatly tested, but never released. It was an incredibly strong program. Trust me, If I started working on one today, in several months it would be the strongest out there.

Anyway....

As far as your computer is concerned. Your worried how a "virus" works there. I don't know how to word it all, but I can give a "simplistic" sense.

There are "two" main things to worry about. Memory resident viruses, and signature viruses.

MEMORY RESIDENT:
Now if you look at the bottom right of your screen. You will see certain programs "running". These run together. Every time you start your computer. Any "anti-virus" software can spot problems here quick. The reason, is.. they constantly scan for a change in an ".ini, sys, exe, bat" or any other file that isn't supposed to be altered. If they find one.. your computer will freeze. These aren't the only files running, but easiest for you to see.

SIGNATURE FILES:
These are "known viruses". It means. If your anti virus software knows of a certain virus, It knows it's patterns and can delete it.

If you think ANY "anti-virus" is better or worse then another, you would be quite mistaken. Unless you like a different "button layout" or something. They work exactly the same. If it's "Memory Resident", they all can completely stop an .exe being altered in it's tracks. If it's a "Signiture file", every single anti-virus company shares the same information. If you pay for "Norton", or get "Avast" free.. it will be the same. Actually I suggest you download "Avast 4" (which is free) right now. Will do the same as anything you are "paying for".

Virus types:
I don't see this important right now. But I will say a little. The reason, you have have some "anti-virus" software.. and they will say the type of the virus.

1) If your software says it found a "Trojan". It's a password stealer.

2) Adware, just stupid crap. They put more "ad's" on your site.

3) Spyware, Another stupid thing. Means they collect information of your using habits. Nothing to worry about really.

4) Worm, or Malware. Why they are making these distinctions I don't know. A worm means, a program that winds around and grows. Gets into many files. A worm is BAD. Malware, could be any malicious program. This definition alone would take me 10 blogs to write. I'd just say.. if your computer reports you have "either", you got some chit going on. Malware could be an easy fix, or real bad. I hate how they report crap now.

I'm just gonna say. If you got "virus" messages please contact me. The first thing I will say is download "Avast 4" for free. If you still have a problem, I'll help you sort it. I am quite competent in this area.

Take care, Gary :)
