Ya know what? I am 100% for bringing "chain gangs" back. Actually, some states have. I'll just say my "reason's".
First, I am "against the death penality". Killing someone in a "cage already" doesn't do much good. It even costs more to "execute" someone (legal fee's) then to keep them in jail. I find it "Barbaric" really. Cost however, really has nothing to do with my thoughts.
I don't find "killing" anyone "morally" right. Sure, if someone broke in my house.. and I thought they were a "threat" to my family. I got no problem "sending a bullet" through their brain. I'd have no problem killing anyone in a "war" situation I felt I was fighting for "good". But to kill someone, that is "locked up" and not a threat.. I am against that. These reasons are deep. As you already know, our legal system is not perfect. Once "executed" no way to bring them back. That's one thought. Another would be just "what" does it teach society. It teaches "violence to me".
I understand those that "support" the "DEATH PENALITY". I really do. They seem to feel it's a "deterrent" to crime. I doubt that, most of them have no life anyway. I serious doubt many who "kill someone" take the time to think.. "I better not do this, I may get the death penality".
Here is the thing. Most that commit these types of crimes, already have a "shitty" life. They are in a "do or die" situation. Rob a store, whatever. They know if they don't get caught their life will be better. If not they go to prison. Which usually isn't a whole lot worse then their current life.
Short story. I was "homeless" awhile. Not long, but enough to experience it. At the time, I was actually thinking of committing a "petty crime". Something that would get me sent to jail. Not long.. maybe a year. Get through the winter months. Get some healthcare done (because it's free in jail, and I couldn't afford it otherwise). I'd have food, housing, and cable TV. Do something "minor" I thought. Sort my thoughts, my ideas.. and come out all the better. I didn't, but I seriously thought about it.
So the "REAL" criminals in the world think the same. They don't worry if they kill someone. Prison is hard, but alot easier then alot would admit. Yes there are "stabbings" and whatever. But mostly they watch cable, read, and whatever most of the time. Nobody wants to be locked in a cage all day, but for some people it's easier. I'd bet my balls, "Charles Manson" has an easier life then you. More boring, but more easy. Their life on the "outside" was HARD.. so to them.. what does it matter.
The "REAL" deterrent to crime (to me), is bring back the "chain gangs". Think about it. When someone who has a bad life, they aren't gonna worry about "prison" where they watch "cable" all day. That's actually, an easier life. Being put to "death" is easier too. But if they know... If they get a 20 year sentence, and they will spend it "every single day" getting up. Working their ass all day in chains. They may "re-think" what they plan to do. Not everyone, but to ME that would be a deterrent. Plus, if they ever could prove themself "innocent", they aren't "dead"... and may be able to move on in life.
I joke around alot here, but I also sometimes get into "real" issues I believe. Most of what I say should be "obvious" to anyone. This is something I really believe. What do you think?
Love ya all, Gary :)
PS, I know LOTS of ex cons. Think I'll ask some thoughts.. lol.
