A Journey Into My Life

Not a Bad Day

It wasn't a bad day at the show really. I didn't get much sleep.. and am super tired even now. Sales wise, we did almost exactly what I expected for the "first day" (Friday). I always expect to do double on "Saturday" what I make on Friday. On Friday.. we had the $75.00 show fee (plus the $25.00 city license) covered by 1pm today. So from there on it's all profit.

It rained a little on and off. Nothing strong.. mild. I never had to close down. Torwards the end (it closed at 8pm), we seen a major storm coming up. So we packed early. Doing shows 24 years, you know when to stay and go. Major rain, hail.. all that hit most vendors. We got hit by about 5 minutes of it while packing the car. Most other vendors were "caught" in it. Suckers.. lol.

We were basically set up right across from the courthouse in Mt. Clemens. A major suburb of Detroit. I'd guess 75% of our customers were either "prosecutors, police, jurors, lawyers or judges". Cops in uniform all day, the "Mt.Clemens" prosecutor was the first dude looking at the booth. The only reason this is funny to me, is MOST people think coin cutting is illegal. It really isn't, but even they ask me.. lol. They do come through to just look, and for a reason too. In that area, I have seen the FBI come through and close down many booths. Take people fo jail for "fake Jordache jeans" and such (in prior years).

Me.. no I have no problem. I could if I cut a "Chevy symbol" (or something) for a customer (a copyright symbol), but the chances of that are near nothing. It's alot different doing a custom order "artwork", then going out and selling "counterfit" work claiming it's real. Think of a "tattoo" artist. What if a biker wants a "Harley Logo" put on their chest. Nobody (prosecution wise) is getting into that legally. Not even "Harley Davidson". Technically it could be a problem, but art is looked at differently. My work is same in that respect.

Usually (and even today) I got lots of compliments on my work. Even the uniformed police "make jokes" about the pot leaves and such on my didplay.. lol. But in the end.. they say "good work".. that's it.

If it doesn't rain, we should do well. We did hear we are supposed to get some showers. I hope I do well. I need some cash to get some "Child Support" out, as well as other bills. May is not a "killer month". June, July and August should be great. I just want to do as good as I can this month.. and make stock for the better months. Today, I cut nearly $400 in just backup stock for the display.

Sebastian was with us all day. He did really well. No complaints. It was a very nice day out overall. He enjoyed it.

Gotta get up early and go tomorrow. Wish us luck!! It should be decent if the weather holds. Lots have said they will be coming back.

Take care all, Gary
