Meeting Grumpy. a Meme

New meme game.

Ok guys and girls. Tell us a tale/truth. Truth or Fiction. We will all guess and you can tell us in a few days if we are right.
Truth or Tale?
The summer that I finished the 6th grade, I was told I would be spending the next three months with my uncle Bobby, that lived in Meridian, Ms. My parents were getting divorced and needed that time to "work on things" before I started school the following September... my much awaited first year of junior high school.

My aunt and uncle had three young children, Paul - age 2, Chris - age 4 and Tammy age 5. My aunt , a high energy stay at home mom spent that summer teaching me ' how to be a lady." New pixie hair cuts, a REAL bra, and how to match shoes and purses.
Next door lived a very nice family. A dark haired, beautiful woman, with a son who was already in high school. His name was not Grumpy..... then.
Each day I rode my bike by the house, at least 50 times. After a couple of weeks the "high school guy" finally decided to speak to me.
My chore each night was to wash supper dishes.... I always dawdled... until I meet.... you know.
Between the two houses was a brick slab which was made into a picnic area for his family. We would sit on the old picnic table and talk for hours. I remember his transitor radio playing "Blood, Sweat and Tears' song.... Spinning Wheel. ( I thought it was a romantic song) We discussed my childhood, how things aren't really fair sometimes. OH, and he taught me how to play the game " I believe in Mary Worth."
Across the street was a "ditch swing". I remember together we would run and swing across the ditch and just being around him made the pine trees smell sweeter. A gentleman, even then.
He was never ashamed of his "little friend." There were guys that came over in cars and on motorcycles... he was with the "BIG" guys. He was steadfast even then. Always a wave and a smile.
I left that August only to come home to an even worse family situation. I thought of him often over the years.
People here always know someone who knows someone else that is someone elses's 2nd cousin once removed down here in the South. A few years ago I was able to contact him via email and ..... well. You know this rest.

BS&T was one of my favorite groups. They came to my little counter-culture college in the middle of a cornfield and played. We had many, many concerts (nothing else to do) but that one was one of my faves. I'd love to hear David Clayton-Thomas in person again. What a voice! As for the question, I think it's a true story. Sad about Paul Davis. I liked his music.

I don't think Grumpy is from the South. Maybe you dreamed this after eating that left over pizza at Bob's! No know knows from whence the Grumpy came. Perhaps not of this Earth...
