Lynell and her family left New Orleans and are now in Chattanooga, Tn. A friend on her billiard team has a cabin there.
With so much talk about levees, it occurred to me that some folks may not know what a levee really is, or how it works. For them... here ya go. (reinforcing the levee)

Thanks. I've often wondered what they looked like. Now I know! Great post.
I love your new avatar. Sure glad Gustav has gone bye bye.
Glad Lynell is on safer ground! Hoping Gustav doesn't esp. in New Orleans.
So glad for Lynell! That has to be a big relief for you. Did she take her parrot? CNN interviewed some folks in NOLA that say they can't afford to leave. Thanks for the info on the levees - I didn't know.
Is that Michael Moore piling on the sandbags?
"sheet pile" just thought of that
reguards yer Bevis and Butthead pal bugg
glad Lynell and her family got evacuated ok. Mayor Ray Naggen(Complete Dipshiat-LA) has gotten on the stick early and is trying to evacuate people in a timely manner. Hopefully, FEMA will follow his example and get their heads out of their a--es as well. This hurricane is gonna be as bad as Katrina if not worse, some predict. If the same thing happens as it did with Katrina, all gub'ment officials involved should face criminal charges.
reguards yer and I'll be there to pull the switch pal bugg
Lynell is in Choo-Choo Town!! That's just next door to me. I'm glad she is safe. See personal note in your message box.
Thanks for the primer, Cindy. National Geographic did a great piece on the levee rehab in New Orleans which I featured in my Blogster blog, "Rebuilt Levees 'Riddled with Flaws'." —— https://martne.blogster.com/rebuilt_levees_riddled —— Very distressing stuff, given the Gustav Category 4 threat and the fact that FEMA notes the levee rebuilding to withstand a Category 3 storm won't be completed until 2011. I am very worried for the people in the path of this storm.
