Soup, Part Trois

Laura's comment about the ham bone made me think about making split pea soup with the ham bone in my freezer. I have a rotation of soups that I make in the winter. I make vegetable-beef, chili, split pea, minestrone, and sweet and sour cabbage soup. I eat some and freeze the rest in small containers for quick meals later. My small containers are all gone now. Time to start stocking the freezer again. Who else makes soup in the winter? What kind?

Question from a newbie-I usually click Retirement on the channel below. Should I be changing the channel based on the topic? Should I click Food today?

I don't use the Channels to look for posts, I use the "What's Happening - New Articles" almost exclusively. Jerms picks Channels randomly just for the fun of it. I use Recipes for kitchentales and Travel for traveltales fairly consistently, but as troutbend, I try to find something that fits the topic, and if I don't know what, I pick Life and Events (but never 'boring' because if I thought it was boring, I wouldn't bother posting it. I wish there was a Channel for books.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know if those channel selections were important or not.

I'm not really a "soup guy"--more of a stir fry guy. All the liquid forces me to get up several times in the night! Either way, I usually go crazy tossing everything in but the kitchen sink. I once counted over 15 ingredients (mostly veggies) in a vegetable soup. All from my garden. Stir frys (fries?) aren't much better!

For the record, the most I eat out is 3 times a week and that is usually lunch Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays--the rest of the meals I cook at home!

I haven't made a stir fry for a long time. I used to make them every week. Thanks for reminding me. I will have to dust off my wok. Literally.

I have one container of Cabbage Roll Soup left in the freezer. No, I'm not an inventive cook. I was trying to make cabbage rolls and messed up but this mistake tastes delicious. I make a lot of cream soups. I generally call them Cream of Whatever Was In The Fridge Soup. The Christmas turkey dinner and soups are my specialties.

I don't usually make cream soups, but I have some broccoli that needs to be used. I may make cream of broccoli soup. Thanks for the reminder.

I make all kinds of soups using the turkey bones, skin, etc., from Thanksgiving as the stock--throw everything in from rice to noodles to canned and/or frozen veggies, onions, peppers, leftovers--each has a distinct taste!

I change channels every once in awhile but if you subscribe to people it doesn't really make a difference--they will read you!

First time I ever heard about you cooking and not eating out!

Thanks. Your soups sound wonderful. I have made turkey noodle soup but I don't enjoy messing with the bones, etc.
