Thinking About Life ... ... ... ... .

In my last post, I had just applied for another job here at the health department and was hopeful that I could move to another position. Well, even though I was more than qualified for the position, I didn't even seem to make it to the interview step in the process. Hmmmmm? Now the supervisor for that department seems to be avoiding me even though we've been friends for a few years now. Two hmmmmm's for that one. Could some unnamed outside force be interfering with my job quest? Inquiring minds want to know!

At that time, my financial situation was deplorable but I had hatched a plan to get a little relief and its actually worked so far! I asked my bosses if I could go back to doing the emergency "on call" duties every other week like I had done for almost two years instead of the once a month stint I had sharing the duty with the other three maintenance guys. Since the other guys don't really like doing the on call duty, talking everybody involved into this was not a problem, so now I get some extra pay on every paycheck instead of every other paycheck. Its definately not a "cure-all" but it sure does help me keep my head above water for now. Speaking of paychecks at work, we've been told that even though this was the third year without any raises here, we'll get no raises next year either! (Oh happy day!) On the other hand, we DO get to write down suggestions for upper management on ways that we, the good little peons, can be more productive and beneficial to the health department. We've also been told that this is a VERY serious issue with the big bosses. Once again, hmmmmmm.

In the interim, I've applied again for roughly 15 county jobs since then, (They get regular raises and are in worse financial shape then we are!), but I'm less than hopeful on that front. I've sent in at least 50 or 60 apps in the last 8 months or so with the county and I haven't heard even the slightest peep out of any of them. Last week, I did send in an application for a federal job here in Orlando, a painters job with the veterans admin department that has a pay scale of $19 to $22 an hour! The posting for this job ends on the 21st of this month and the posting stated that it could take months for the VA to get back to us regarding the jobs. Maybe that can work in my favor since I'm already employed, while other applicants may need gainful employment sooner than that. We'll see. I've got over 30 years experience in the painting trade as well as experience in almost every phase of the construction industry. I've painted everything from small toys as a child to large battleships when I was in the Navy. That in itself was quite an experience since I did some touch-up painting of the ship while in a body harness and suspended by rope over the side of the ship while we were underway. I wonder how many applicants for that job can truthfully make THAT claim! lol There are two positions open for this posting and I'm optimistic that I have a chance to secure one of them. Time will surely tell.

Well, the hour is getting late and this ol' dawg is getting tired so I'll close for now, but not before I say hi and send my best wishes to all my friends here at mybloggers and wish all a wonderful week!

Later gators!

P.S. I'm enclosing a pic that shows how nicely my hair is growing back after that unfortunate "clipper incident" back in June! lol

Hey your hair looks great!
I also have sent out about 50+ resume's/applications and rarely hear back - sadly it's the norm, but keep at it! Don't let not hearing anything discourage you! That's my philosophy anyways... not getting a raise for 3 years ESPECIALLY now with gas prices and crapola, well, it's unacceptable.

Quite a difference in jobs, health department or painting. Good luck with your application.
