Whale Wars

I don't have Animal Planet in my cable TV package, but can catch up with Whale Wars via Netflix Instant View. What an adventure it is for these eco-terrorists to risk their lives to try to interfere with Japanese whaling operations in the southern oceans.

Kings of jungle arrive for new life on Colorado plains
Closer to home for me, 25 lions recently landed in Denver, Colorado, point of origin was small traveling circuses in Bolivia where such animal ownership has been banned. They will be housed at an animal sanctuary near Keenesburg in eastern Colorado. This airlift was paid for by Bob Barker (formerly of The Price is Right) and Jorja Fox the actress who was on the Las Vegas version of CSI.

I am so glad that the lions will be as free as possible.

Bob Barker also helped subsidize one of the Whale Wars ships, and it's named after him. He always ended The Price is Right telling people to get their pets spayed or neutered, so it's nice to see he really believes in better living for animals, not just giving it lip service.

I get e-mail updates from Greenpeace about the efforts to stop illegal whaling all over the world. Japan certainly is not acting sustainably anywhere in fishing anything. Personally, I dislike any country's use of those floating fish factories, too, and drag nets. Uggh.

I read in the news about the lion rescue. Bravo to Barker and Fox, and to Bolivia for banning such circuses, which feed the poaching trade. May those endangered animals have a better life.

I'm not much for posting videos, but it was so thrilling to see the lions exploring their new acreage, just had to share. I particularly liked seeing the one in the snow.
