This Oughta Be Good

Automotive > Trucks

I am looking to trade for a newer smaller pickup, a 2013 Nissan Frontier, and have a dilemma. The truck has all the features I want but it also has some graphics on the outside that feel juvenile. I want my truck to have some dignity, not be kicky and sporty.

They look like this:

It's an off-road package, and to make it seem fun, there is a tire tread design across the hood, below the doors, and on the back end of the bed along with the model name: Pro-4X. The salesmen were apologetic because the pictures didn't show the graphics, and they said the perfect truck is out there somewhere.

We talked about whether the graphics could be removed and painted over, but concluded that wouldn't work.

Here is a picture of the actual truck, I like the color a lot - it's an unusual shade of metallic blue, and the paint is in really good shape:

There are so many things I like about this one, I don't know what to do. Mr. Troutbend says he never thinks of dignity when it comes to a truck.

If you were some bureaucrat with a government agency, would it destroy my credibility if I pull up in a truck with a tire tread mark across the hood?

Any input from all of you? Thanks.

I'd buy it. Treads are not that awful -- not like a cartoon character. Incidentally, Ed just had our 2001 Isuzu repainted. Pricey. But it looks new. He can't let go, so he painted it. It rides good. And now he's driving it and I have the Hyundai all to myself. Hey.

Yes, could be worse: there is another graphic on a different year of that same truck model truck that I like even less.

I say buy it, you won't even see the graphics after a while and it
gives you a certain air that says this is no ordinary lady who drives
such a sporty truck!

Yes, I told the salesmen instead of matching the truck to what I think I am, I can change my personality to match the truck. This might involve multi-colors in my hair.

A good truck is a good truck but I know there are schools of thought about them... My brother in law leaves the Japanese truck home and drives only his American-made one to work now he's in a union. I don't know, I would ignore the pattern the dealer put on it. Anyway, if that 2nd photo is the true color, it's very nice and seems like it would quiet the graphics after all.

I really like the color, and at least the goofy graphics aren't all over the tailgate so cars behind me at stoplight won't be judging me.

Not dealer, manufacturer.

I think u may be overthinking it. Go for it if it has the features you need and want!

It's not as if I will be driving that truck all the time because the gas mileage isn't all that good.
