Transitions

After 38 years the Bohemian Cottage on the highway to town is closing for good. They served European fare - German, etc. It has always been a mystery how they stayed in business because we never saw any customer cars there, not even on the days they put out special signs, such as Father's Day.

It's not that we'll miss the restaurant, but I'll be sorry to see that familiar, colorful building get painted over.

However, I'll always have a little bit of it right here at home. Back in the 1980s when my folks were remodeling this house, my mother hired someone from there to paint the design on the window planters at our house.

The hummingbirds think the painted red flowers might be real ones, and every day we see them checking to make sure there wasn't a change overnight.

Charming building. Interesting how they survived without customers for as long as they did.

I am glad for the decorated planters on my house, a little bit of that tradition lives on. Fortunately, those planters are somewhat protected from the elements, so have lasted all these years.

Those are super cute! And it's always sad to see the familiar fade away.

I don't know if I'd miss a tire store in a strip mall, but they usually don't have cute tyrolean flowers painted on.

Red is an attraction for birds--in fact they will poop more on a red car than any other color!!!

Horses, too. One of the fishermen was telling me how he used to drive a red Jeep for fishing, and the horses at one of the properties gnawed on the paint. Then he got a white car, and they chewed on it, too, but not as much.

I can just hear one HB saying to another "Mmmmmm--maybe they forgot and put out the real ones today. Hey, we have nothing else to do except drink nectar from one flower and pollinate another. I'm tired of all this pollinating and not getting paid! Let's check that faded red flower--maybe we'll get a different tasting nectar for a change!"

They also check out the taillights on our cars, will fly into the open garage when the car is parked in there. And fishermen in the river with red on their hats or clothing get buzzed.
