The Title Will Give it Away

I was just today saying I was kind of glad he hadn't come back because I will be here only a few weeks and then leaving for a bit, but maybe by the time I leave the ground squirrels will be out of hibernation and he can eat them.

After a snack and burying several large dog biscuits all over the yard, he curled up under the spruce tree with an eye on the back door.

So happy your fox showed up and that he is okay. I think in time, he might let you get closer. Keep us posted. Toss him a kiss from me.

Yay! Foxie is back. I wonder if he has been coming to your place all winter since you left, just waiting for your return. I love his little dark legs and bushy tail. How close can you get to him?

It haunts me to think of him sitting there staring at the back door, waiting, just waiting. That's why I'm a little bit happy when he doesn't show up every day, because then I know he's got a life away from here. (He didn't come around yesterday and not so far today.)

I can get maybe 5 feet from him. If I walk toward him, he gets nervous and starts to back up, but when I look down to place some food on the ground, he starts walking toward me and I get nervous. Thank goodness for the telephoto on the camera. He made some rules about where his food should be placed.

someday he'll be in your house, sleeping on the rug

After you posted about your bird living in the house, I dreamt that the fox did indeed live in my house.

A little like whale-watching. You're on fox watch.

And a sighting is a huge deal, just like the whales. Hummingbird watch starts mid-April.

Excellent pictures!! He looks much larger than the ones we have around here.

He's all fluffed out for winter, his coat is about 6 inches long. Inside there is a little tiny animal. That said, I think our foxes here have longer legs than ones from other parts of the world that I've seen pictures of.

Watching the back door! It is kind of a miracle to have formed this bond
with a wild creature, because you know he has been looking for your return.

It really is a miracle. I hope this year if he has a family he will bring them around.

I hadn't realized how down I was feeling until he showed up, and my mood lifted.

He has a very nice winter coat!

Isn't it lovely? I would love to touch it, but I don't think that will ever happen.
reply by troutbend on Mar 2, 2012 7:15 AM ()
LOOOOVE the pictures!!!! the second pic is my absolute favorite though.
comment by kristilyn3 on Mar 1, 2012 5:31 PM ()
Me too! He does that little hunker down sometimes when he sees me coming, it's such a friendly pose, and it's hard to get a picture of it because as soon as I get the camera up, he's usually walking toward me.
reply by troutbend on Mar 2, 2012 7:07 AM ()
Yay!!! So great to see him again!

He walks carefully on the crusted snow, and buried quite a few dog biscuits in it. I hope he gets them out before the thaw and they end up soggy.
