I spent an hour this morning chatting with a wildlife photographer who came to get pictures of our hummingbirds in the perfect light. We always have a good time gossiping about what's going on in the area, topics ranging from fishing to websites to river restoration to those recent random shootings of people on the public streets in our area.
Our river went up about 2 feet the other day, but it was brought back down today because at least one of the temporary bridges was washing out. We are okay here so far, but I worry about the water washing under the rocks that are supporting our culvert and protecting the bank.
This morning we took a ride up to the little town of Glen Haven where the main road is being rebuilt to deal with all the flood damage. They've waited more than a year for this to get started, and many residents are waiting for the completion of the main road in order to rebuild their private bridges. It's all supposed to be done by the end of this year so work on our highway can start and that road can be a detour.
Then we looked around the riverbank for new volunteer plants, sometimes known as weeds. According to the plant people, if it's native to Colorado, it's not a weed. I've got some more tree starts to plant tomorrow, have to find a good spot. We're having at least some rain every day, so it's an ideal year to start them.
Next, the house mover and his girlfriend came over to talk about what to do next on the red cabin project. We are in a holding pattern waiting for some plans and drawings, and can't decide if we are going to go ahead with the project or not. The girlfriend wanted to see our rental cabin, and then they left and it was supper time.
We have one rhubarb plant and just enough for a small pie with lots of custard to fill up the crust.
