Road Work and a Bug

This week has slipped away. They started working on the road on Tuesday, installed that ugly clay/shale dirt.

Suddenly, it was a real road again, and I already forgot what it was like in its damaged state.

It's under that 4 inches of snow that fell this morning. You can't tell the difference just looking at the picture, but I can. Down there at the end, road is at the same level as the bridge.

Yesterday, Carl worked on the bad place on the riverbank. We need some more fill dirt, but the foundation is laid.

and put some boulders next to the bridge.

Today it's snowing hard, so nobody is working.

He helped me look under the Brown Palace cabin to see if the crawl space is completely ruined - it's not in great shape, but it's not completely ruined.

Monday they will finish up for now. This doesn't completely solve my problems: I am still not going to be able to drive up to the house or get my cars out of the garage. We have to wait for the ground to thaw in front of my house, sometime next month. But I'll be able to park on this side of the bridge.

Oh! and when I was out walking in the snow today, I saw a flying bug. Why should we care? It hatched out of the river and fish eat those bugs, also the birds - it's biological rebirth.

Months of repairs for a few days' damage. But it least something is getting done!

I hadn't thought of it that way, but that is certainly the case. I was at a meeting in town today, and one couple said they are still living in a motel waiting for their road to be fixed. She told the whole room we should be inviting them over for dinner because she is tired of microwaved meals. I was in the motel for 20 days, and know exactly how she feels, so gave them my card and said call me to set a dinner date. I hope they do call.

Nature must be repairing itself and going about as usual after wreaking
havoc. I can just imagine the big sigh of relief.

I am looking forward to spring when everything greens up so we can figure out where the flood damage was most extensive. I'm waiting for the ground to thaw so I can dig out around the trees and some other projects.

The saga continues ... bugs for breakfast. Oh boy.

There was 4 inches of snow on the ground, and I saw that bug against the snow. It looked a lot like a mosquito - a summer bug to me. It was kind of shocking: bugs and snow. But I looked it up online, and this particular bug hatches out in early March, so it's right on schedule.

After reading your title I thought you had the flu and was all set to send you a chicken soup recipe.

When I re-read the title, I thought about a bug in a computer program.

What about Mr. Fox??????

He comes at night, still afraid of the cat. I'm so disappointed, hoped he had more courage than that.

I don't like bugs but I'm happy ur happy.
When might it thaw? Maybe by April? I will hope that or sooner for ya.

I sure hope it thaws before the end of March. I'm not much of a bug person myself, but the fishermen seek them out. They turn over rocks in the river and strain the water through a fine net to see what kind of bugs they can identify right there, and choose the artificial bugs that look like them from their little box.
