The Formerly Red Cabin

It has taken a very long time to get this cabin built because of the road closure, but they are finally working on the inside.

The shape and size is the same the same as the old cabin, it just looks bigger because of the deck, and we added a sleeping loft so the roof it higher.

It is higher up in order to be above the high water mark for flooding. The nice thing about that is the view of the river from the deck is much better than it was with the old cabin. It's not right on the edge of the river - more like about 60 feet, so that'll be extra protection from floods.

Yes, the old cabin was charming. It was more than 100 years old, and the logs were rotting. I tried really hard to save it, wasted thousands of dollars trying, but finally had to give in and start over to come up with something that people could actually live in.

Thank you. I think the porch is the best thing about it.

Can't you even paint the door red??????

Well maybe. But don't forget there are still two red buildings that will stay red. I will post a picture.

That's pretty stunning. The green roof is great and reminds me of all the cottages in the show Midsomer Murders, where every window frame seems to be the same shade of green, and anything iron is usually painted white or green.

I was thinking that the builders should have asked if we wanted white window frames or brown (possibly brown is more expensive) but then I decided to consider it an accent feature. We'll see how I feel when it's all done, not that we can change that part.

I like it and there is wonderful storage underneath when it is not flood season.

That is an interesting area.
