Rain

It finally rained today, and rained good, for about an hour, and it might start up again over night. I wish this was the start of a rainy weather pattern, but it's going to warm up again and dry out. We get most of our moisture in the spring.

I built a fire to warm up the house, and it's a cozy feeling. Later, I'm going to make hot apple cider.

I haven't seen the fox in a couple of days, but the squirrels and chipmunks are busy eating pine cones and storing the extras in the woods.

Here's a tree the beavers are working on. I discovered it too late to save it.

As our rainy season appears to have started already, I'm looking forward to the days I can sip hot chocolate by the cozy fire.

Please send us some of your rain.

Sorry about the tree and I hope the fox is okay. How do you save a tree? Do you put a barrier around the base? Here's hoping you get a bit more rain.

If we get to the tree before the beavers chew all the way around the trunk, we can put chicken wire around it and it might live. This particular tree is a goner, and it's not where it will damage any structures if it falls accidentally, so we'll cut it down next summer. This is the driest August and September I can remember here.

Goodbye tree ,, so do you let the beavers have it

Yes, if the beavers want to come back and take it all the way down, they are welcome to it. It's chewed more on the other side from the one we can see. We found this damage too late to save the tree.

Our drought is bad. But the farmers are cutting soybeans and corn now, so they need it dry.

They are still irrigating the corn here, will stop this month, and harvest in November or later - depends on how much moisture is in the kernels, sometimes they don't harvest until December.

Mmmm a fire sounds delightful! Enjoy.
I do not understand how we can be having similar weather on opposite coasts, but it rained here earlier for about an hour and it's supposed to rain again later...

The weather pattern seems very odd right now, with a flattened jet stream to the north of us. We do a lot better here when it dips down a bit.
