Osprey

I saw an Osprey here today. It was flying relatively low over the river, so I was able to get a good look at it. The Western Bird Book says they are everywhere, but I don't ever remember seeing one around here before. In recent years we have had kingfishers catching the fish, but I haven't seen or heard them lately.

First I glimpsed it flying north over the bridge so I ran over there, and here it came back clutching an 8 inch brown trout in its talons, flew upstream and around the bend.

If I'd been there in time, I'd have seen the catch. As big as it was, it must have those soft wings like owls because it seemed to fly silently, and the fish wasn't saying anything either.

I was wondering how on earth you got these amazing shots -- but apparently you're in Colorado, where nature lives.

That bird's got the biggest fish I ever saw a bird get. I'd hate to get him mad at me. And his wing feathers are beautiful.

gorgeous shot! Osprey are surprisingly large and incredibly beautiful. I used to watch them on their nesting poles when I lived in the interior. Thanks.
