No! by Thomas Hood
No sun--no moon!
No morn--no noon!
No dawn--no dusk--no proper time of day--
No sky--no earthly view--
No distance looking blue--
No road--no street--no "t'other side this way"--
No end to any Row--
No indications where the Crescents go--
No top to any steeple--
No recognitions of familiar people--
No courtesies for showing 'em--
No knowing 'em!
No traveling at all--no locomotion--
No inkling of the way--no notion--
"No go" by land or ocean--
No mail--no post--
No news from any foreign coast--
No Park, no Ring, no afternoon gentility--
No company--no nobility--
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member-- No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds
-- November!
Around here, this reads like a bucket list.
Besides our way to town being closed 19 hours of the day, the latest is that our post office was allegedly vandalized, so they are locking the lobby except for their normal business hours of 9 to 4 week days - but due to the highway closure the residents have to be out of the canyon by 8:30 am and can't come back until 4:00 pm, 7 days a week. So if we have to go to town that day, to work, for example, there is no way to get to our mail boxes unless we hire people to pick it up for us. And I'm not crazy about neighbors going through my mail.
I hope that this will get straightened out in the next few weeks.
