The Neighbors

Our 6 day guests left this morning about 6 o'clock. He's a Chevy dealer in a tiny town in the northwest part of Illinois, almost in Indiana, and she works for a hospital, running the medical records department. They have come almost every year for the past 4 or 5 years and consider this their home in the mountains, although they don't spend a lot of time here because they go hiking and shopping all day every day.

I don't usually hang out with the guests because I want them to feel like that's their own place, not on loan from us, but I always make a sugar-free cherry pie for Les and another regular pie for the rest of the family. They have us over for burgers and we bring the pies.

They also shared a couple of other meals, most appreciated because we were in the midst of cleaning out our garage and I was too busy to cook.

They leave the place very clean, and I keep their rent low out of appreciation, plus they send new people to stay with us.

We're going to have a busy month, all returning guests, and I always feel a little bit lonely when they leave. This is the first time we've had so much business in June, I think because the weather got warm so early this year.

July is usually our busiest month, and so far it's not so much, but I think we'll get some last minute business.

The poppies behind that cabin are coming into bloom.

I love the Brown Palace because of that screened in porch on the river.

Definitely its best feature is that porch. We haven't done anything to the floor since I stripped off the paint - trying to decide what treatment to apply. It looks rustic, but not bad. People sleep out there on air beds sometimes, so I want it to be nice, whatever we do.

No problem! I take a lot of photos to document the seasons from year to year, and how much the trees grow.

Really looks like a great place to stay--too bad my traveling days are over--where were you when I was traveling all over the USA?!?

College, probably. I know you're still traveling in spirit.

I envy those who have the privilege of living in the paradise that is Colorado. We must settle for short visits!!
