Misfortune

It's fun to read about the misfortunes and aggravations that other people go through because we can congratulate ourselves that it's not our problem.

We are at long last opening up our rental cabins after the winter and starting up the water systems. And both of them have pipes that separated at joints. This is better than the pipes freezing and bursting because I didn't do a good job blowing out all the water with an air compressor last October, but it's just as difficult to fix when the break is not easily accessible.

Plus there is the worry that more joints are going to spontaneously break like this at any time. Nothing to do about it but fix what we can, and go forward with optimism and good cheer.

I haven't checked my tarot cards lately, and maybe I will right now in case they foretell any further problems. Generally, tarot decks have the wizard, death, the magician, and so on. I think someone should design a handyman version of tarot with The Plumber, The Electrician, The Tree Surgeon so we could deal the cards and have a warning about pipes that are going to break or electric outlets that will short out or trees that will die.

I'll tackle repairing anything unless it's electrical or plumbical.

Wouldn't that be a hoot? I can picture asking the tarot deck if it is likely the roofer is going to return our call or should we try to find a different one.

Ted is not feeling well enough to deal with plumbing and such but at least we have a plumber who is not into grand larceny. Gary can fix anything.
My belief in him is solid.

Yesterday we went to see his dad and came home with some tubing, clamps, and good advice about fixing the current problem. His dad is very handy around the house, and Mr. Tbend is following in his footsteps after all these years.

we had our pipes burst a coupla times when we owned the house. it wasn't fun and I think we put the plumber's kid through chiroprator school.

We can barely get a plumber to come up here, so I dread the day something comes up that Mr. Tbend can't handle himself.

I've not owned anything till we got our house down here and freezing pipes are not a Florida problem, even in harsh temperatures (for here). But I can say, with feeling, that when I rented in New York, even when I was alone, I didn't have to be a math wizard to deal with my taxes or anything else. I could handle things easily all by myself when I rented.

Too bad fixing broken pipes and doing math or taxes are such different skills.
