Local News

This first story isn't local to here, but has that local flavor to it.

Yes, it's sad for the bunny, but I'm sorry, it's so absurd, I had to laugh.

Germany's famous earless baby bunny died suddenly after a cameraman, who was about to film the rabbit for a scheduled news conference, accidentally stepped on it.

Huffingtonpost.com reports that Til suffered from a genetic defect that meant she was born without ears and was about to be filmed during a news conference when the cameraman stepped backwards, crushing the rabbit to death. Til's sandy fur made her hard to spot, especially when she was burrowed in hay.

Zoo director Uwe Dempewolf told Spiegel magazine Til did not suffer: "It was a direct hit."

More absurdity:

LAFAYETTE, Colo. -- Lafayette police have ticketed a man who is accused of tying his cat to a rock after the cat refused to go jogging.

Lafayette police Sgt. Fred Palmer said 19-year-old Seth Franco brought his cat on a leash to the path around Waneka Lake Park and the cat was unable to keep up.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera, witnesses told police Franco secured the cat's leash to a rock while he finished his run. A passer-by saw the cat and called police.

According to police radio traffic, the cat was being attacked by a flock of birds while it was tied to the rock.

Franco was ticketed on suspicion of domestic animal cruel treatment, but because the cat was not injured, it was returned to Franco.

What about the cat that wouldn't jog? I felt sorry for it being attacked by birds, but the thought that the owner even set out to get the cat to jog struck me funny.

It looks like you are really close to the fox. He is sure a beauty.

Zoom on the camera works wonders. Whenever he shows up, the first thing I do is turn on the camera and zoom it as far as possible, then adjust if needed. It helps that he is willing to stand still.

As a professional photographer, I am so dismayed to read recently in the news of the photographer inadvertently stepping on and killing that tiny bunny at a photo shoot. My stomach just rolled over. Can you imagine being forever labeled "The Bunny Killer"? As in, "Arrange a photo shoot for the new polar bear cub, but whatever you do, don't call the bunny killer." Talk about the end of a career.... I have done my share of animals in the news coverage, and have escaped with the photos and no casualties.

Great shot of our fox!! Where was he when you took the picture?

The fox is on the riverbank just outside the dining room window. We played peek-a-boo with the camera, him pretending he had never seen a human before, and me pretending I'd cleverly snuck in close enough to get a quick shot of an elusive nocturnal hunter.

All I could think of is 'the fox at the hen house'!! Has his girlfriend been around lately? Hey, I'm a romantic!!!
comment by greatmartin on Mar 16, 2012 7:12 AM ()
Yes, I think she was here the other night, but last night a huge raccoon came around at night, and the foxes won't come around until the raccoons move on.

I thought it was horrible about that poor bunny. But I adore animals.

Yes, it's horrible, but it's one of those things where crying about it won't change anything, so might as well smile at the irony.

The fox is lookin' good!!

Isn't it? I have hundreds of pictures of that fox, so it's nice when I can get a different pose like this one.
