Holiday

There was frost on the roof of the house next door this morning, although it warmed up nicely this afternoon to about 70 degrees. It's too early for cold weather, just in time for my planted wildflowers to start blooming, and my zucchini plants are just coming into their own. I have a lot of small tomatoes that are ripening on the vine. They weren't supposed to be small tomatoes, but they have nice flavor.

It was a quiet holiday at my house, but lots of tourist traffic up on the highway, sometimes it was bumper-to-bumper. Friends invited me over for a steak fry, and we had a nice visit. She lives in California and rents out her house short-term. The house cleaner charges $200 a time to clean it (it's a 4 bedroom house), and that is covered by a cleaning fee in addition to the daily rental. She does a great job, and it's worth it because the house is booked almost solid, and the cleaner has to get in and get out quickly.

I have lots of flood recovery meetings coming up this week and into next week. Today I found out about a US Army Corps of Engineers workshop about floodplains and elevating houses. It is meant for engineers and government floodplain managers, but that doesn't bother me. I want to elevate our red cabin that was flooded a foot deep, so am sure I'll learn something valuable.

I'd like to see this too. My only mental image of it is Jed Clampett's house; I think that was raised. He did live in the mountains. Oh, wait: Indonesian houses on the shore. All raised way up.

Frosty mornings usually mean nice sunny days , same with foggy ones ; some elevated homes on the River Murray built with floods in mind have living and parking space underneath, not possible with your red cabins

Yes you better take care of MY red cabin!!!

We are getting cooler too--only a high of 89 today--I'll soon be moaning and groaning when it gets to the 60s and 70s!
