Getting Old

I must be getting old because the other day Mr. Troutbend cut down a tree in front of the house and I didn't watch it fall or take pictures. It was a nice 50-something douglas fir just outside the living room window. We talked about him cutting it down last year, and I had forgotten. After it was gone, I couldn't decide if it was the right thing to do, but he said it was leaning toward the house, and a lot of the needles ended up in the rain gutters, so he wanted it gone. He said now the little aspen trees in that flower bed will get more sun and grow better, filling in the gap.

We decided to leave the stump tall and use it to hold up our weathervane that has been leaning up against the garage for several years - has it been six years already? Time sure flies. It's in remarkable shape considering that.

A tiny plant in our foyer next to a brick low fence turned out to be a royal palm and it grew tall enough to be a hazard to the house so we had to pay big bucks to move it. Then lightning struck it in its new location and we had to pay to move what was left of it.

A good, new home for the weather vane.

I wish that it wasn't so expensive to have trees taken out. The pecan trees
in the back yard need to go.

Sounds like a good plan. Trees too close to the house aren't a good thing. I have a few in the back that I get concerned about especially when the ground is soft/wet and the wind blows. But it costs too much to have them removed.
