Garages 1

John mentioned talking about what's in our garages as opposed our fridges. Sounds like fun.

My dad had a large collection of scale model farm equipment and other vehicles.

We had to sell it at auction to settle his estate.

I replaced it with books - mysteries - starting to think about how to get rid of them.

My dad's padlock supply - comes in handy.

His key collection. I'm afraid to throw any of them away because they might go to something.

Saved pen tops. I think I threw these away and took the photo so I can remember them.

This came from my grandmother's house and that's her writing.

Mementos and junk are two different things. You want to remember pen tops?!?!?

That looks like an organized, finished basement, instead of a garage. My garage is the pits.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but it is a lot like the basement we don't have anywhere else. My dad put carpet on the floor in the front part and a couch to lie on and read, and the back part still has a workbench, but it's more of a display of antique tools and family mementos than a working area.

It does limit your mobility, Martin.

That's quite a hoard! My garage couldn't compete. I have one shelf with a few small garden tools (clippers etc) and a few things hanging on the walls. And firewood, a few face cords of that. Nice collection tho!

I enjoy looking at the things that have been in the family for literally more than 100 years. We don't have garage sales, and we don't shop for the sake of shopping, so at least it's not continually growing.

Some people have junk draws and others have junk garages--some have both!!
Reason #98,569 to NOT have a house--less junk!

Some of us are comforted by having some mementos.
