The Flooding at My House Video

Here is the video I recorded during the flooding, raw and unedited. It starts the morning of the first day, and footage taken the next day. It was hard to see the bridge once the water in the yard was too deep to wade into, and all the bushes in the way. For a couple of days I didn't know if the bridge was still there because the water was so high and I couldn't get a clear look at it.

There are plenty of other flood videos on YouTube - look for these key phrases: Big Thompson Flood 2013, Highway 34, Estes Park, Drake, Colorado Flooding 2013 (other rivers were involved, so they might come up)

Today I'm watching the snow falling. The house is reasonably warm, the cat is happy, and the birds are dining on corn bread that I made for them. 4 inches of snow has fallen, and is expected to continue overnight. The flakes are small, so it's not piling up very fast, which is good. Our humidity is very low this time of year.

This was frightening to watch. You were so close taking the video. The water was so close to your house. The sound of the never ending rushing water would have just about sent me over the edge. You are one brave woman.

I was fortunate to have a whole house generator so I could watch TV that whole time to keep up with what was happening in the flood area, take a shower and operate the air compressor and the shop vac. Sometimes I don't think I would have maintained sanity without that bit of normality, but of course I would have gotten through, regardless, because there would have been no choice. And I had the cat here to look out for.

The rushing water is unsettling, knowing you were right there with your heart in your mouth. Living on faith and hope through it all....

Your home is beautiful in the snow. Snow covers and refreshes every flaw and sadness, a respite for the soul.

I am so grateful for the TV news. Once in a while they would say 'go to our website for ...' and I'd despair because I didn't have Internet. After it was all over I sent Thank You notes to the TV stations for sticking with the story. So true about the snow - it covers all the chaos and I am perfectly able to pretend the damage is not there.

What if now I'm a disaster magnet and draw some of those tropical storms and hurricanes your way?

It is really magnificent and frightening to see nature on the rampage.
I am so glad that the Brown Palace and your home survived.

Watching it today, the water has a certain majesty, especially where it was marching across the bridge. The water hitting up against the bridge was more frenetic.

If I was a boid, I'd like to live in your yard. The snow picture is beautiful. The flood is scary. But you hung in.

I finally uploaded that video last night so the family could see what it was like during the flood.

That's awful seeing the water roaring by the Brown Palace!

There was a good-sized stream running under the front porch of the Brown, and I was sure I'd see it going down the river any time, but it held up well, bless its heart.
