Finally

Today I found out for sure that the highway department is going to fix my upper driveway where the most serious damage is. It's so bad they can't bring their equipment down it to get to the place they need to start fixing it, so they are coming around from the other side of the property.

The guy said they started talking about it a couple of weeks ago, and I wonder if he was going to surprise me with it. I'm not much for surprises like that: just tell me, don't let me worry about it.

The damage is where the 'A' is, and the equipment will come all the way around the bend from the left, by way of Sleepy Hollow Park. There's no bridge: they'll drive in the river and then up the riverbank to get around the bridge, like a Sherman tank. It's very exciting, as if someone just handed me $100,000.

Today's newspaper announced that the main highway might be open by Thanksgiving, a week earlier than projected. They estimate it has cost $15 million per mile to rebuild just our highway, and for the three major flood recovery projects, at least $450 million.

This is what the rebuilding has looked like before the paving.

Now I can focus on what is to become of my fish.

Let's hope so. You know me - there's always the next big thing, but this one was really big. Hugs to you and the cats.

I am glad that you are getting help with that at least.

It's a roller coaster these days: everywhere we turned it was 'no, can't help you' but now there is some new coalition that has surfaced to help with river restoration. They will coordinate what needs to be done because obviously it won't work if each landowner tries to do their own thing.

What good news about the help fixing the drive way! I looked at that
picture and could just see the highway the way it used to be and it is so
heartening to know that it will be that way again.

Whenever there is an article about finishing the road, the contractors thank the residents for our patience and I always think: "Are you kidding? We had no choice but to be patient and we're the ones who are eternally grateful."

Well I was kicked off mybloggers for a few days and expected to come back to find all your problems solved and everything ready for the holidays so Santa could visit--I'm an optimist!!! Glad to hear things are 'happening'!

I know what you mean! We should be able to rewind time and the fox would be coming to dinner every afternoon, and I'd be googling for recipes and knitting patterns instead of 'how wide is a track hoe excavator?'
