The Farm Toy Sale

Yesterday I helped a friend at the Timber Dan collectible and toy show. There were a lot of Matchbox cars, scale models of farm tractors, and collectible figures from movies like Star Wars.

I could tell the economy is picking up, because there were more people buying than in the past three or four years, and the vendors were pleased to sell things they've been trying to move for five years. Invariably, when you talk to one of them, they will mention how many fewer boxes of stuff they are taking home than they came with.

Here is what it looked like toward the end. Everyone loaded up their goodies and will unpack them at another show in another place next weekend.

My favorite toys were home made creations and dolls. I wasn't careful with
them and none survived.

Yeah, me too -- I was a little destroyer. And anything that did survive was thrown out by mom who did not have a feel for collectibles. For instance, now very valuable copies of 1930s Superman and Batman comics.

As a kid, all my toys were either wooden or medal. Plastic had not hit the toy market yet.

My friend is going to start a toy museum in South Dakota, and she's got those Marx gas stations and other metal play sets we all remember having so much fun with.

That figures! My sweet potato end that is growing in a cup of water is surviving but not flourishing. Right now it's next to the herb garden, enjoying the grow lights. Maybe I need to change its location to a window with good sunlight.
