Another conversation with my 85 year-old uncle, this time working on taxes:
We left Friday for a long weekend in Laughlin, NV and got home to four frantic messages to call him and his accountant. He put off getting his tax info together until now. In years past my uncle sent me his bank statements and I put them into Quickbooks so the accountant would not have to figure out what each check and deposit was for, but not for the last couple of years. One of his sons told me he'd asked his dad about it, and Uncle J said he'd sent me the bank statements this year, but he hadn't.
Accountant to me on phone: Two unidentified deposits, $5584.12 in August, $5484.07 in November from "CRW."
Me: Didn't come from me. Could this be rent paid on Uncle's condo in Colorado?
Accountant: I'll call CRW and ask them.
Uncle J next day: Two unidentified CHECKS (not Deposits)made out to CRW for those amounts, what were they for? Figures I wrote them to pay bills for uncle's farm that I help manage.
Me thinking the accountant should have called CRW by now: They're made out to CRW?
Uncle sounding like he knows who CRW is: Yes, CRW our property managers.
Me assuming he wrote these CHECKS, so must know who CRW is: Have you called CRW and asked them?
Uncle: Who is CRW?
Me Googling after we get off the phone: CRW apparently is the property management firm for Uncle's condo in Aspen. Sent email to CRW - could these CHECKS be for work done on the condo? Please contact accountant.
Accountant: Uncle is confused, it's DEPOSITS not checks, and yesterday told Uncle to call CRW (name on Deposit slip).
(I thought the accountant told me he was going to call.)
Me to Uncle's son who is 'in charge' of the condo in Colorado: Please call property manager CRW and ask them about these DEPOSITS.
Fingers crossed that SOMEONE will call property managers and find out if those were quarterly rental income deposits.
